“We do not have the Green Deal and shameful ecology”, defends Monday May 13 on France Inter Pascal Canfin, Renew MEP, a few weeks before the European elections. Candidate on the list of the presidential majority “Need for Europe”, carried by Valérie Hayer, Pascal Canfin “claims the record of climate transformation” of Europe over the last five years. He assures that his party has made it possible to “advance, like never before, climate action”.

The MEP particularly welcomes the drop last year “CO2 emissions of 5%” over one year in France, “a first” outside the Covid-19 period. He sees the consequences of “the cumulative action of the government in France and our action in Europe”. “We are at the meeting point of history and the Paris agreement”, he boasts. He cites, for example, “the carbon tax at the borders” set up “to charge for Chinese, Turkish or Brazilian imports”. Pascal Canfin insists that such a measure is “both good[ne] for the climate and for the industry”. He also mentions “the law to put an end to the deforestation of the Amazon when we consume coffee and chocolate at home”.

Pascal Canfin also wants to denounce what he calls “false trials” brought against the presidential majority, accused “climate inaction”. “The results are in”, he defends himself. He also brushes aside the notion “punitive ecology”maintaining that ecology is on the contrary “a rule of the game” as well as “the highway code and taxes”.
