“We did what the French expected of us”, defends Elisabeth Borne on the use of 49.3 to pass the reform

Elisabeth Borne defended the appeal of the executive in article 49.3, in particular to pass the pension reform. “Today, some would like to reduce us to 49.3, which would suddenly have become an anti-democratic weapon, affirmed the Prime Minister, at the Congress of the Horizons party, Saturday, March 25. “We did what the French expected of us, build compromises on useful texts for our fellow citizens”, she added.

The Prime Minister wanted to recall that “on bills, on legislative proposals, in joint joint committee”the government had “builds majorities”. “Blocking, obstruction, sectarianism have never been on the side of the majority”, lamented Elisabeth Borne.

The head of government intervened before the speech of Edouard Philippe, the president of the party, member of the majority. She announced, on March 16, to use article 49.3 to have the pension reform adopted, after weeks of negotiations to avoid this scenario.
