And 1, and 2… and 22 goals to one. This is the river score of the amateur football match between Arles and Septèmes-les-Vallons, which was held on Sunday May 8. The meeting, which took place during the last day of Pool C of Regional 2, the equivalent of the 7th football division in France, is necessarily challenging.
That’s a goal every four minutes. It’s a lot. To put it mildly: the result has officially been frozen and an investigation has been opened. It must be said that this match was nevertheless important: before the match, at the top of the classification, Arles is tied on points with Martigues, for the rise in Regional 1. This team is better classified displaying a better goal average, goal difference… unless Arles achieved a feat with a multitude of goals scored. Like 22 goals to 1.
22 to 1!
It’s a football match score… and it raises questions. @OliviaLeray investigated!

Far from the world record
For its part, Arles defends itself from any arranged match, evoking a “cannabis smell“near the locker room, a 50-year-old coach”who helped out“or the fact that the goalkeeper”didn’t even have gloves“.
For his part, the president of Septèmes completely refutes the suspicions of match fixing. But his players don’t want to know anything more, apparently because of an unpaid bonus. Case to follow then… For the little anecdote in the big one, it is still the latter who scored the first goal of this 22 – 1.
The fact remains that the world record for the biggest goal difference still stands: it is a 149 to 0 achieved in Madagascar in 2002. We can therefore score 1000 times against a club, but not… Finally, you know the following.
