War between Israel and Hamas: “We could question the responsibility of Hamas, the role it makes human shields play,” says the vice-president of Crif – (FranceInfo)
19/20 info receives Gérard Hunger, vice-president of Crif. He comes in particular to talk about the rise of anti-Semitism in France.
Asked about the diplomatic efforts being deployed at the moment, Gérard Hunger affirms that “negotiations are taking place in Qatar, and it is there that it is being played out. Or these negotiations are successful, now we are waiting for that to happen. I perfectly understand Netanyahu’s position, which is to say that a ceasefire is no and a humanitarian truce is yes, but not so that Hamas benefits from it. Let him free the hostages, and then we’ll see. This is the number one concern of Israelis.”
Rise of anti-Semitism
Asked about Israel’s response and its accuracy, the vice-president of Crif specifies that Israel “strike Hamas targets. It does not particularly affect the civilian population. In the northern zone, there are still 300,000 people remaining who Hamas has prevented from leaving. There are numerous victims, we could question the responsibility of Hamas, the role it uses human shields and its way of waging the war.. In France, anti-Semitic acts are also increasing. “We sense an anti-Semitism in the atmosphere (…) that does not mean that this anti-Semitism targets millions of people. There are active minorities who seek to feed on this anti-Semitism, and who take action,” concludes Gérard Hunger.
