Heat disrupts your sleep, well-being and mood. Need a quick fix to stop suffocating? We offer you a 4-point guide to find your freshness ally!
There are two types of air conditioners that are easy to install. The window air conditioner fits in a window opening, which requires some size compatibility. You will need to cover the remaining opening to prevent fresh air from leaking out. The portable air conditioner is a movable device equipped with an exhaust pipe that must be connected to a window to evacuate the hot air.
1. Room to be air-conditioned: The area is important, but so is the sunshine it receives, the large appliances that are there and the existing windows.
2. Power: It is calculated in BTU/h (a measure of the amount of heat that the air conditioner can extract). Usually, there are about 20 BTUs per square foot. It is not beneficial to choose an air conditioner that is too strong thinking that the room will be cooler. It will stop and restart too often increasing energy consumption.
3. Energy efficiency: Find the EnerGuide label on the box and check the CEER rating. The higher the rating, the less power the device uses to produce the same refresh power. The EnergyStar certification is affixed when the model is highly energy efficient (consumption of approximately 10% less energy).
4. Noise: Living cool in a tractor shovel is not your wish. Aim for a sound somewhere between that of a dishwasher (around 40 dB) and a washing machine (60 and above dB).
ANOTHER SOLUTION: AIR COOLERS
This is an excellent compromise! They are more efficient than fans, which only circulate air without cooling it, and more economical and environmentally friendly than an air conditioner. Maybe less powerful, but they offer an interesting solution. In effect, they lower the mercury using the principle of evaporative cooling: an improved version of the wet towel trick on a fan. The device absorbs the hot air, passes it over the cold water which causes the evaporation of the water which, in turn, causes a drop in temperature of the air which is then sent back into the room. And no need for a pipe connected to a window. He is free from attachment! Move it to the bedroom at night, to your office during the day, for example.
In addition, the devices on the market combine several functions. Many are also air purifiers. For our smoky summer, here is an option to consider.
