“We agree on a pension reform”affirmed on Tuesday September 20 on franceinfo the Modem deputy Philippe Vigier, vice-president of the Democrat group (MoDem and independents) in the National Assembly, while Jean-Paul Mattei, boss of the MoDem deputies, announced that the centrist group, who is part of the majority, would vote “definitely” against a pension reform by amendment to the Social Security draft budget, one of the options considered by the executive.

For Philippe Vigier, “we cannot force through an amendment to the Social Security financing bill without even discussing what we are going to put in these amendments with the social partners, with parliamentarians”.
The MoDem deputy recognizes “that a pension reform is needed, that the balance is not assured”. He points “the difficulties of small pensions, the employment rate of seniors in France which is very low, the criteria of hardship which have been poorly defined”. He also denounces “a problem of method” with which the centrist deputies “completely diverge”. “We cannot like this, when there is an unemployment insurance reform coming up, simply brush aside the dialogue with the social partners, with Parliament”insists Philippe Vigier.
“Don’t tell us it’s to save time”annoys the MoDem deputy. “This reform, if it passed in the famous Social Security financing bill this year, it will not be applied before 2023.” Philippe Vigier insists on “a method” to set up who “must be based on this debate, this consultation”. “Afterwards, if there is a disagreement, we must decide”adds the centrist deputy. “Of course you have to decide. I’m not telling you that to waste time, or back down. You have to do it.”
