“We are worried about our teams”said Tuesday April 18 on franceinfo Thierry Allafort-Duverger, director general of Doctors without borders (MSF), on the fourth day of a power struggle between two generals still indifferent to calls for a ceasefire, after fighting which killed nearly 200 people. “We were looted and we took stray bullets”he adds.

“We are worried because we have more than 150 international people spread across the country, including around 50 in the capital Khartoum”explained Thierry Allafort-Duverger. “There is ongoing violence. We have had warehouses, like many NGOs, which have been looted”.
“In Khartoum, it is very difficult for us to move around”describes the director general of MSF. “There are a dozen hospitals that have been closed. It’s very difficult in terms of supplies with the fatigue of the teams”.
“We are really asking to be able to get people out and to be able to bring in teams and medical equipment”

Thierry Allafort-Duverger explains “try to negotiate with all the parties to the conflict to see how to secure a certain number of places of care”. “We try to keep a maximum of neutrality, to treat all the populations, where they are, and by trying to discuss with all the actors in the conflict”he concluded.
