We are with you, teachers (bis)

We are parents who have suffered a major headache all week following the closure of schools. Our schedules have been turned upside down. Our work-family balance, already difficult, has lost all its balance. We are trying as best we can to plan for the next week, not knowing how long the strike will last. The word “unlimited” makes everything more complex and, we make no secret of it, brings its share of fears for the weeks to come. We are faced with a government that does not seem to understand the urgency of reaching a quickly negotiated agreement and that does not seem to recognize the contribution of the education sector to our society.

However, none of this compares to the fear in a parent’s stomach at the start of the school year when they do not know whether their child will have the right to a qualified teacher or a simple adult to lead the class. This is nothing compared to the services that are refused to children with special needs because there are no professionals or support staff in their school. It’s nothing like seeing the teacher your child loved so much leave the profession because she can’t take it anymore.

Dear school staff, your requests are also our requests. Fair working conditions that match your contribution are essential. Your demands are also ours, since they are also for our children. For this, we thank you and our hearts go out to you.

We are ready to put up with the inconvenience for as long as it takes.

We are with you, like last week and like the following week, as long as it takes.
