“We are really on a wire” warns Guion

With seven points in three days, Bordeaux is in the nails. Thanks in particular to its young elements who discover the Ligue 2 championship with envy and enthusiasm. But before going to rub shoulders with Grenoble on Monday, David Guion hopes that the club will quickly be able to sell in order to qualify the players recruited this summer. Interview.

France Bleu: in what state of mind do you approach the match in Grenoble?

David Guion : Still in the same idea. We start from the last match, we look at what worked, what didn’t work, we work on ourselves and some orientations in relation to the opponent. We had a week of work where the boys were still consistent in their investment. Now we are going to meet a team that is used to this Ligue 2, which has strengthened a lot in the off-season and which presents value in all lines and in particular in front.

It’s impossible to continue with this team

Are you thinking in particular of the failed first period against Niort?

Yes. We have no room for manoeuvre, we are really on a tightrope and I have to keep high standards. Today we are at 110% of our means. There are a lot of things to correct and we can’t afford to do a little less than 110% because otherwise we’re going to have difficulties. I really have to succeed in keeping the boys completely in the project and totally invested. They can’t even be a little bit unfocused.

Does your young team need more control to be able to last?

Obviously. I understand and I hear this satisfaction in the environment compared to all these young people that we put on the ground. Ligue 1, Ligue 2 combined, it has never been seen to have such a young team. It has never been seen to start a season without any reinforcements. Our 19 competitors have strengthened. All these young people, it can’t last, it’s impossible. The story is beautiful so far, there are results but we have to supervise this youth. There are some who come forward, we see that it worked well at the training center, we see that they are boys who listen. It bodes well for the future but it’s impossible to continue with this team.

What could make this generation settle permanently in the team?

They are incredibly lucky. They weren”t programmed to play straight away but to join the group. You never start so many young people all at once. For a young person to be able to blossom and progress, he must be accompanied. These boys will have to bring consistency over time, be demanding with themselves, continue to work a lot. For the moment we are winning so it’s a little easier but I suspect that there will be much more difficult times in the weeks to come. These boys really need to be supported because we can’t put all the responsibilities on them. There are some who were not even holders in N3 last year.

Are you impatient to be able to count on your recruits?

Of course I’m impatient. We all want to have our players as soon as possible. At no time did I expect to experience a situation like this. There are only ten days left before the end of the transfer window. I suspect it might still be a little long.
