(Montreal) Prime Minister François Legault made a point of recalling “that we are lucky to live in a place like Quebec” in his New Year’s greetings on Sunday.
In a video posted on his social networks, Mr. Legault addressed Quebecers to convey his wishes for the year 2023.
I would also like us to realize that we are lucky to live in a place like Quebec: a magnificent territory, a safe place, a people who are united and who help each other when it is difficult. That’s Quebec and we should all be proud of that.

If he took the time to wish everyone good health in 2023 – “playing sports, having good lifestyle habits, we know that is important”, he said –, the first Minister, who has a weakness for the economy, quickly returned to the charge when addressing young people in particular.
“For the youngest, I wish you success in your studies. I know it sounds cliché, but we need you, young people, in lots of promising sectors and we are here to help you succeed, ”said Mr. Legault, seated in front of a Christmas tree.
“More broadly, I wish you success in what you will undertake in the next year, whether it is a project, a passion or a new job,” he added.
In his Christmas message last week, Mr. Legault had rather focused on the economic situation which is difficult for many Quebecers. “We won’t let you down, we’ll be there to help you,” he promised people who are feeling the effects of inflation and the rising cost of living.
Trudeau draws a positive balance sheet
In his own year-end greetings, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, at the federal level, drew a positive balance sheet for the year that ended on Saturday.
In writing, he recalled that “we’ve gone back to doing what we love, like getting together with our friends and family.”
“In addition, we have experienced one of the strongest economic recoveries in the G7, and the number of jobs created has exceeded the number of jobs lost due to the pandemic. During the summer, we started to welcome visitors from all over the world again, who came to admire the natural beauty of Canada of which we are all so proud,” he boasted.
But since all has not been rosy in 2022, Mr. Trudeau underlined the solidarity of Canadians.
“We came together to help Atlantic Canadians in the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona. We have also supported the people of Ukraine, who bravely defend their country, and we will continue to do so,” he wrote.
“And when global inflation drove up the cost of living, we provided much-needed support to those who needed it most, so they could buy groceries, pay rent, take their kids to daycare and ensuring that their children have the dental insurance they need. »
With a view to 2023, Mr. Trudeau is betting on three aspects: electric vehicles, gun control and the cost of living.
“We will continue to attract unprecedented investment into our electric vehicle supply chain – from the extraction of critical minerals to the manufacturing of vehicles – which is already securing tens of thousands of jobs across the country. We will continue our work to make our communities safer by strengthening gun control. And we will continue to support people by making life more affordable,” the Prime Minister said.
