“We are looking for consensus, we want to move forward”assured Arthur Delaporte, national secretary of the Socialist Party and deputy for Calvados, on franceinfo on Saturday, while the name of Huguette Bello for the post of Prime Minister has not been validated by the National Council of the PS. “There is no consensus among us at this stage.”the party said

Arthur Delaporte assures that it is not that Huguette Bello’s candidacy does not “does not fit” to the PS. “The position taken by the national council of the Socialist Party is to say that the issue of appointing a new Prime Minister for France is essential and that we must continue the discussion until we have a consensus.”.

“Last night, the Communist Party took a position in its national council by saying, it’s Huguette Bello for us”recalls Arthur Delaporte. “We said it was Olivier Faure. There are different parties that have defended different candidacies. And so I think we need to continue to discuss to arrive at a name that will be shared by everyone.”

The national secretary of the PS assures that if Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS, “does not achieve consensus” within the New Popular Front as a possible Prime Minister, the party is “obviously still open to discussion.” “We are not stuck on the name of Olivier Faure, but it is the name that we put in the discussion.” For Arthur Delaporte, “It is not enough to say, we have a name. It is enough to say what is the objective that we want to achieve, to have a government that lasts. And we think that we must continue to discuss together to have the best” person.

“The challenge is to have not only a Prime Minister for the new Popular Front”adds the socialist. “But it is also about having a personality who is able to bring people together beyond this majority, within Parliament, to be able to pass laws and change the lives of French women and men.”

“Time is not pressing in absolute terms”, adds Arthur Delaporte. “We have until July 18 to determine our collective position. And it is not because a party has determined its position that we obviously have to align ourselves with everything.”
