“We are in a total blockage” of the country, worries Jean-François Copé, mayor Les Républicains de Meaux, on France Inter Monday, June 27, while the President of the Republic is trying to build a coalition after the result of the legislative elections. “There is cause for great concern”believes the chosen one, pointing “the gap” between this blockage and “the high stakes” faced by France, the war in Ukraine and “the inflationary shock”.

Emmanuel Macron “gives the feeling of not having completely landed and realized the gravity of the situation”says Jean-François Copé. “Today’s circumstances make him quite helpless”he continues, considering that the circumstances must “force him to completely change his posture”. “We have entered a parliamentary regime which will twist the arm of the executive”summarizes the mayor of Meaux, while calling on the president “to take note that he must move the lines”if he wants a majority. “Emmanuel Macron must agree to change his project”particularly in terms of “security, education, secularism and public accounts”.

Jean-François Copé calls for a “uncompromising pact of government”against the opinion of certain tenors of his party, including President Christian Jacob who affirms that he is not “no question of pact or coalition” between the LRs and the government. “A pact is to record the choice of the French, to take into account a deadlock situation”specifies Jean-François Copé, convinced that it is not “not completely alone” to be of this opinion within his party. For the mayor of Meaux, “the French will not be able to understand for a long time” that the elect – who “all work for France” – “may rejoice to see this blockage”.

A coalition of LR to the communists in the government, “it’s untenable”, also believes Jean-François Copé, while Emmanuel Macron instructed Elisabeth Borne to sound out the parliamentary groups, from the Communists to the LRs, in order to form a new government. The elected LR calls “to consistency”according to him, “the French want to know what political line we are defending”, “otherwise it is no longer a government, it is a cabinet where everyone disputes”.
