The Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties, which is among the three winners of the Nobel Peace Prize, said “happy” Friday, October 7 to receive this highly symbolic award in the midst of the Russian invasion. There is still “a lot of work to do for the victory”, reacted one of the leaders of the NGO, Olexandra Romantsova.

She announced a press conference on Saturday October 8 and specified that she was on her way to Ukraine with the head of the organization, Olexandra Matviïtchouk. “When we heard the news, we were stunned,” for her part declared in kyiv to some journalists Anna Trouchova, in charge of communication of the NGO.

“We view this award as a respectable recognition of our business,” she added at the premises of the Ukrainian capital. The Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties “was established in 2007 and our main mission is the defense of human rights”, she explained.

Since the invasion of Ukraine by forces from Moscow in February, “we are documenting the war crimes of the Russian military in Ukraine throughout the country (…) Another important activity is the return of kidnapped Ukrainians to their homes”, added Anna Trouchova.
