“This is a phenomenon that we encounter more and more frequently.“, deplores this Sunday on franceinfo Luc Duquesnel, general practitioner in Mayenne and president of the Confederation of French medical unions (CSMF), after the aggression of one of his colleagues during a home consultation in Mulhouse.In 2021, 1,000 doctors reported being assaulted.”
According to him, a growing number of general practitioners are now deciding to cease their activity, or to change their structure to feel more protected. “Some are also forced to equip their offices with tear gas canisters to defend themselves in the event of an attack. It’s not reassuring.“
He himself says he is a victim of this violence: “I did call duty for SOS Médecins this weekend. I regulated 300 calls between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.: I received two death threats. However, I will not file a complaint because I do not have time.“
Faced with this phenomenon, which he considers that “the French are the first victims because the doctors stop home visits in certain districts“, Luc Duquesnel calls for more sanctions. “I hope there will be prosecutions in Mulhouse. We want the penalties to be severe, to act as a deterrent.“
