According to the Minister of Justice, “two reasons” explain this delay. First of all, “Covid has been there”. “Anyone who has had to build a single-family home knows that things were obviously delayed”, he points out. The second reason, “it’s the shortage of materials, the war in Ukraine”. According to him, “we’re catching up.” “I put on my construction helmet, my boots, I go around and next year, I will have inaugurated half of the penitentiary establishments in the plan”, he assures. Éric Dupond-Moretti insists: “Half of the establishments will be built, operational, will receive inmates”.
Proof that the government is active in this matter, it will “to inaugurate with the Prime Minister a new penitentiary establishment in Caen” Friday October 6 in the afternoon, assures the Minister of Justice. A “large penitentiary establishment”he emphasizes, “550 places”. “I will inaugurate two more in the next two weeks”which represents “a total of 1,500 places”he congratulates himself.
