“We approve of the direction of the measures that are being taken”greeted Ludovic Friat, president of the Union of Magistrates (USM), on Sunday April 28 on franceinfo, after the announcements by Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti to better fight against organized crime.

In The Sunday Tribunethe minister announced the creation of a national prosecutor’s office dedicated to the fight against organized crime, as well as that of a “true status of the repentant”inspired by the model in force in Italy to fight against the mafia. “We can say that we have been heard”, was satisfied Ludovic Friat. “From the beginning of March, we called for a rethinking of the fight against organized crime. We approve of the direction of the measures that are being taken.”.

The president of the USM particularly welcomed the creation of a new repentant status in France, “a good track” according to him, “because the current status is a little complicated and cautious”. “If we want to have repentants, people who come to denounce these organizations from within, we must be able to have the tools that allow this”, he continued. As for the creation of a new prosecutor’s office dedicated to organized crime, Ludovic Friat believes that“we need a specialized jurisdiction”. “We are facing a threat which requires another dimensioning of the judicial police and justice”he finished.
