Antoine Arjakovsky, historian specializing in Russian-Ukrainian relations, is a guest on 19/20 info, Wednesday March 6. He returns to the meeting between Presidents Hollande, Sarkozy and Macron on the war in Ukraine.

Emmanuel Macron summoned two former heads of state, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, on Wednesday March 6, regarding the war in Ukraine. “It’s a way for the President of the Republic to say ‘the situation is serious’”, says Antoine Arjakovsky, historian specializing in Russian-Ukrainian relations. A security agreement, which will be discussed in Parliament, has been signed with Ukraine. According to him, this document is important “because he says that we must resist, in terms of cybersecurity, in terms of propaganda, in terms of armaments”he explains.

“It’s not just Ukraine that is under attack”

“We defend the interests of Ukraine, but we also defend the interests of France”, he adds. Emmanuel Macron affirmed that sending Western troops to Ukraine was not excluded and reiterated his words, calling on the allies not to be cowardly. “He is gradually becoming aware that it is not just Ukraine that is being attacked, it is all of Europe”. Thus, Russian cyberattacks constantly take place in France. “The question is to defend European civilization and the European way of life. That’s why it’s important to talk about it with all parts of French society”concludes Antoine Arjakovsky.
