Camille is a nurse in the Mother-Child Unit at the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur-de-Montréal, one of a dozen caregivers who took turns hour after hour to reassure and support a new mother and her first newborn through this adventure.
Like many users and patients, once in the “machine”, we can only praise the work of the teams who were able at every stage to demonstrate professionalism, empathy and that human warmth that is so important when one is vulnerable in a healthcare environment.
Camille, Mr. Minister of Health, this is the nurse you must keep in mind when making decisions that will affect the future of the network. Camille is what we all want in our institutions, a conscientious, professional, funny, caring person who is passionate about her work. When she takes care of us, we feel confident, reassured, listened to as if we were a member of our own family.
Curiously, we learned that Camille had surprisingly just been registered on the Roll of her order. We were doubly impressed and admiring of her.
Mr. Minister, you know the numbers! Quebec can no longer afford the departure rates from the profession that we have seen in the past. Obviously you are in negotiations, obviously the network is a huge ship to steer, but you must always think in a special way about these Camilles who choose professions in the health and social services network. We must keep them at all costs.
Camille, no matter how the network behaves with you and your colleagues, stay who you are! Patients, users and Quebecers need you and all the Camilles who will complete their training. Thank you very much!
