He had signed for two years and finally left after three and a half months. Claudio Ranieri, notably past FC Nantes or AS Monaco, was thanked by his Watford club on Monday January 24.

Arriving at the club last October with the mission of breathing new life into the 15th in the Premier League, the Italian failed. Three and a half months and eleven defeats later, the Hornets are 19th and therefore in a relegation position. Worse, Watford has not won since November 20.

In its press release, the club recognizes Ranieri nevertheless like “a man of great integrity and honour, who will always be respected here at Vicarage Road for his efforts to lead the team with dignity”.

However, halfway through the championship, the situation had become too dangerous, forcing the board of directors to “a change of trainer” for “to work with a talented team in order to achieve the immediate objective of retaining their place in the Premier League”. Watford will play their next Premier League match on Tuesday, February 8, against West Ham.
