Messages such as “water thieves”, “emergency water” Or “the raging water roars” were tagged on the green of the 24 Hours golf course based in Mulsanne (Sarthe) on the night of Friday September 15 to Saturday September 16, 2023. An action by the Uprisings of the Earth, reports this Saturday France Bleu Maine which received a message from claim.

In this message, environmental activists claiming to be part of this movement denounce “the illegitimate monopolization of water for the leisure activities of the privileged while market gardeners in the sector are prohibited or limited from collecting water”. These members of the Earth Uprisings “call for increased actions so that water becomes common again”.

>> Is the water consumption of French golf courses equivalent to that of a city of 500,000 inhabitants, as Olivier Faure asserts?

Contacted by France Bleu Maine, Simon Boillet, the golf director found “too bad to be singled out”. He assures that he is sensitive to the issues surrounding this resource. “We do our best every day to reduce our water consumption in conjunction with the water agency and the departmental territorial management”, he declares. Simon Boillet specifies that the golf course watered less than one hectare of grass during the summer of 2023. This is the first time that the site has been targeted. The three inscriptions have been cleaned.
