Pam & Tommy (Disney+)

Produced by Craig Gillespie (Me Tonya), Pam & Tommy could easily have generated laughs by depicting them, her, as a nunuche, and him, as a bozo. Without attempting to present them as candidates for a Nobel, the series nevertheless manages to give them back this humanity that the tabloid press has long denied them. Skillfully playing the line between caricature, drama and social criticism, Pam & Tommy goes back to the root of our unhealthy obsession for these stars that we like to see fall from their pedestal.

Dominic Late

The King’s Man (Disney+)

Matthew Vaughn brutally brings out the horror of the First World War, the better to underscore its futility. He still manages to bring to the fore the deep love that the Duke of Oxford feels for his son and the close ties he has with two loyal employees (Gemma Arterton and Djimon Hounsou), who support him. The table is set for a sequel.

family weekend (Disney+)

Quebec actress Daphnée Côté-Hallé, who we saw in Miscellaneous facts and six degreesholds one of the main roles in this new series produced by Disney+ France, which paints the portrait of Fred (Eric Judor), the father of three young girls aged 9, 12 and 15… all from a different mother.

Marc-Andre Lemieux

The Book of Boba Fett (Disney+)

The second season of The Mandalorian ended with a change at the head of organized crime in Mos Espa, on the planet Tatooine. Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) got rid of Bib Fortuna, who had succeeded Jabba, and took their place on the palace throne of the late Hutt. The pace is quite slow and the action rather banal, but the “space western” atmosphere still works just as well.

Pascal LeBlanc

The World According to Jeff Goldblum (Disney+)

Light and instructive at the same time. These are the qualifiers that come to mind when we talk about The World According to Jeff Goldblum. Actor Jeff Goldblum manages to show his openness to various subjects and share them with us from an original angle. From tattoos to jeans, monsters and fireworks, you’ll find what you’re looking for. Both seasons can be found under the National Geographic tab of the platform.

Maryse Tessier

Severance (AppleTV+)

Without exagerating, Severance is one of the most original and surprising series of 2022. Yes, it starts slowly, it is the biggest flaw of the first two hours, do not despair. But when the anxiety-inducing plot takes off, it’s almost impossible to get out of it.

Hugo Dumas

The Tragedy of Macbeth (AppleTV+)

Joel Coen offers a very successful adaptation, close to the masterpiece, which moves away from realism to plunge us into a waking nightmare. The film, entirely in black and white, is carried by superb images and a magnificent dreamlike, claustrophobic setting. Denzel Washington radiates in the title role, and Frances McDormand in Lady Macbeth, a role made to measure for this great actress twice Oscar winner.

Luc Boulanger

A hero (Amazon Prime Video)

Thanks to a story where contradictions often collide, both on the side of the hero and on that of all the people involved in this story, Asghar Farhadi orchestrates a thrilling suspense, very revealing of the society in which he lives, which could also be ours. Don’t be surprised if Farhadi ends up at the Oscars again.

Marc-Andre Lussier

Encanto (Disney+)

With every animated film, Disney raises the bar and creates high expectations. With Encantothe team of creators responds with its lively songs that go to the rhythm of Colombian music, with a good dose of humor, as much in the visual details as in the dialogues, and with the extreme beauty of its images.
