What do black French people have in common? For the first time, a documentary, Blacks in France, directed by journalist Aurélia Perreau and writer and academic Alain Mackanbou, gives voice to black French people of all ages and backgrounds. People known or unknown to the general public. The documentary, broadcast on Tuesday January 18 at 9:10 p.m. on France 2, is also available on france.tv.
Exclusion in primary school, humiliation in adolescence, discrimination at work, suspicious glances at mixed couples… Blacks in France highlights the injustices and stereotypes of which black people are victims in today’s France. The camera follows anonymous people for a long time, but also collects testimonies from celebrities such as historian Pap Ndiaye, ex-tennis player and singer Yannick Noah, actor and director Jean-Pascal Zadi, journalist Karine Baste and rapper Soprano. For a little less than two hours, the documentary goes back and forth between the history of racism and contemporary daily life.
The broadcast will be followed by a debate moderated by Julian Bugier, in which will participate, among others, the actress Firmine Richard and the historian Frédéric Régent, specialist in the history of slavery.
