Untreated wastewater is discharged into sea at UK. These quantities spilled are unreasonables, sAccording to associations and some local elected officials.
The coastline is invaded by brown expanses that nibble the turquoise of the sea on considerable surfaces. France wants to be preserved from these scenes which have become almost daily in the United Kingdom. These are abundant discharges of untreated wastewater, those coming from toilets and showers through the sewers. According to an association, during this summer alone, 171 points on the coast were affected, sometimes even several times. Due to this pollution, bathing has been banned in the South West of England.
This phenomenon is not new. Discharges of untreated water are authorized at sea or in rivers when upstream, the evacuation systems, often aging, are saturated by heavy rains. This helps prevent flooding. Except that the quantities dumped are unreasonable in the eyes of associations and local elected officials. Concern is also growing in France because the discharges could reach Normandy and more surely Pas-de-Calais with the currents. MEPs denounce a violation of the law of the sea. “Faced with the controversy, the British government announced today (Saturday August 27) the end of discharges into the sea of untreated sewage by 2050”announces the journalist from France Télévisions Matthieu Boisseau.
