(Washington) Canadian Denis Shapovalov was eliminated in the quarter-finals in Washington after being disqualified on Friday.
Shapovalov lost the first set 7-6 (5) to American Ben Shelton and was trailing 6-3 in the next set’s tiebreaker when he threw his racket to the ground and shouted at a spectator in the stands.
As Shelton prepared to serve for the match, Shapovalov got into another argument with a fan, causing the referee to give him a violation of the sportsman’s code of conduct and summon a court supervisor.
The match then ended and the two players shook hands at the net to boos from the crowd.
