Washington sends a high representative to China to pacify relations

(Washington) The United States government will send its first high-level delegation to China since the promise, made last month in Bali by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart Joe Biden, to warm their relations.


Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific Daniel Kritenbrink will accompany National Security Council Senior Director for China and Taiwan Laura Rosenberger from Dec. 11-14, the Department of Security announced. ‘State.

They will visit China, South Korea and Japan.

In China, Mr. Kritenbrink will be responsible for taking over from Joe Biden after the latter’s meeting with Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali in mid-November.

The two leaders then promised to “continue to responsibly manage the competition between our two countries and to explore potential areas of cooperation,” said the State Department.

Joe Biden and Xi Jinping had notably spoken of recent subjects of contention such as the future of Taiwan, American restrictions on imports of Chinese technological products or even China’s influence maneuvers around the world.

Daniel Kritenbrink will also prepare the visit of the head of diplomacy Anthony Blinken scheduled for early 2023, the first of a prominent American diplomat in China for four years.
