(Washington) The American strike on Wednesday in Syria on an arms storage site linked to Iran did not cause any casualties, the Pentagon said on Thursday, contradicting the report of an NGO which reported nine deaths. .
On Wednesday, two US warplanes struck a facility in northeast Syria in “response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria”, according to Washington.
“At this time, we have not recorded any casualties,” said Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon’s deputy spokesperson.
The toll contradicts a report released Wednesday by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights which said the strike killed nine people affiliated with Iran-backed groups.
On October 26, the US military struck two other facilities in Syria that it said were used by Iran and affiliated organizations. The United States said the strikes caused no casualties.
These strikes are carried out by Washington in response to the increase in attacks by pro-Iranian groups targeting its army in Syria and Iraq in the context of the war in Gaza, the United States having provided military support to Israel against Hamas.
In total, Washington says it has suffered 46 attacks against its forces in Iraq and Syria since October 17, including four after Wednesday’s strike.
All these attacks caused minor injuries to 56 people, added Sabrina Singh.
Around 2,500 American troops are in Iraq and 900 in Syria as part of the fight against the Islamic State jihadist group.
