Nick Senzel and the Washington Nationals have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $2 million, The Associated Press has learned.
The source from the American press agency requested anonymity, since the agreement between the versatile baseball player and the club has not yet been confirmed.
Senzel will be able to receive an additional $1 million in performance bonuses, $200,000 for every 100 plate appearances.
Aged 28, the second pick in the 2016 draft spent his first five seasons in Major League Baseball with the Cincinnati Reds. His career, however, was slowed by numerous stays on the injured list in 2021 (left knee), 2022 (left foot) and 2023 (left foot and right knee).
He became a free agent on November 17, when the Reds did not tender him an offer for 2024.
Senzel hit 1.95 million last season, averaging .236/.297/.399 with 13 homers and 42 RBIs. Senzel started 40 games at third base, 15 in left field, 12 in center, eight in right and one at second.
He has career averages of .239/.302/.369 with 33 home runs and 125 RBIs.
