The Washington Commanders have an agreement in principle with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for their vacant head coaching position, two sources familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
These people requested anonymity since the team has still not disclosed its choice.
Quinn, 53, spent the last three seasons at the helm of the Cowboys’ defense after more than five seasons leading the Atlanta Falcons. He led the Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance in 2016. He was fired in 2020, after five straight losses to start the season.
He became the Commanders’ choice after Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, considered the club’s No. 1 candidate, indicated to other NFL teams Tuesday that he would remain in Detroit and that the Seahawks Seattle hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
