A study revealed that cotton fibers would be found in the oceans. In question ? Washing machines and spin dryers.
Our washing machines permanently pollute the oceans. This is the conclusion of a study carried out with the help of navigator Fabrice Amédéo by scientists in the Atlantic Ocean. The sensors on board the skipper’s boat made it possible to detect microplastics present in the oceans. During the last Vendée Globe, he sailed as far as Cape Town (South Africa)before returning to France. Fabrice Amédéo brought back 53 seawater samples. The samples are dissected. Under the microscope, microplastics appear, almost invisible to the naked eye.
For the navigator, the oceans are “sick with some kind of invisible cancer“. Pollution is growingpregnant” in the oceans, regrets Fabrice Amédéo. During their research, scientists make a significant discovery, just a few millimeters: cellulose fibers from our clothes. These cotton fibers come from our washed and spin-dried clothes.
