Warsaw and Kyiv sign agreement on security cooperation

(Warsaw) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed an agreement in Warsaw on Monday on cooperation in the field of security between their two countries.

According to the text of the agreement released by the Polish Prime Minister’s office, the total value of Poland’s aid to Ukraine “exceeded four billion euros.”

The text specifies that since the beginning of the Russian aggression in early 2022, “Poland has donated 44 batches of various weapons and ammunition”, and has provided aid “in the form of training, logistics, supplies, maintenance and repairs as well as in the field of medical assistance”.

In total, the agreement states, Poland has trained 22,000 members of the Ukrainian armed forces.

“You can always count on us,” Tusk assured the Ukrainian head of state, just after the signing of this agreement, the day before the NATO summit in Washington.

Warsaw “will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine for as long as necessary,” the agreement says.

According to him, Poland will continue to maintain on its territory the important hub intended to supply Kyiv with Western weapons, and will encourage Ukrainian citizens to return to Ukraine to participate in the country’s defense.

The agreement also provides for cooperation in the fields of defense industries, cybersecurity and intelligence services as well as road and rail infrastructure between the two countries.

Poland has also pledged to support Kyiv in its pursuit of EU and NATO membership.

Kyiv has already signed similar agreements with about 20 countries.
