War in Ukraine | Zelensky will address the US Congress on Wednesday

(Washington) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will virtually address the entire US Congress at 9 a.m. Wednesday, House and Senate Democratic officials announced Monday.

“We are delighted to welcome President Zelensky for a speech before the House and the Senate, and to convey our support to the Ukrainian people, who are courageously defending democracy”, indicated Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in a letter to elected officials.

Many Democrats and Republicans in Congress are urging Joe Biden to beef up his response to Moscow in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, in a rare burst of unity, elected officials adopted a staggering envelope of nearly 14 billion dollars for the Ukrainian crisis.

These funds are, among other things, supposed to allow Ukraine to protect its electricity network, fight cyberattacks and equip itself with defensive weapons. The package also includes more than $2.6 billion in humanitarian aid and more than $1 billion to support refugees fleeing the war-torn country.

The Ukrainian president had already exchanged with more than a hundred elected officials and American senators by videoconference on March 5, pleading for the delivery to Ukraine of Soviet-made planes and a toughening of economic sanctions against Russia.
