This conflict in Ukraine shows a Russian president against the rest of the world. However, the strongman of the Kremlin is not a single man and enjoys the support of some faithful Russian allies.

Vladimir Putin, has he become an isolated leader? After 20 years at the head of the country, the president has reduced his court to a few former KGB. In his close circle, we find Sergei Shoigu, Minister of Defense and close friend of Putin. The intervention in Syria came from him and he also obtained from the president a 30% increase in the army budget. There is also Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs for 18 years. He is obsessed with a return of Russia’s lost influence.

The decision to invade Ukraine reflects the influence of these Russian military men “who belong to a Soviet generation” according to an expert. General Bortnikov, general boss of the Russian secret service and Sergei Narychkine at the head of foreign intelligence are also part of the entourage of the Russian president. Putin, however, chooses alone. Beyond the borders, Vladimir Putin can also count on the President of Belarus, a faithful ally.
