While the Ukrainian counter-offensive continues, France continues to provide arms and ammunition but also training for Ukrainian soldiers. Immersion in one of these training days in Poland.

It is a secret place, which opens its doors for the first time to journalists. In this Polish training camp, the French are maneuvering under the watchful eye of Ukrainian soldiers. In a fictional village, the exercise consists of regaining possession of the buildings occupied by the enemy. An essential street fight to continue the counter-offensive currently taking place in Ukraine. “The way to enter a building, the way to pass in front of a window, to cross a street, all of this may seem extremely simple, but in fact there are techniques, which are taught and repeated”explains Colonel Benoît, responsible for training soldiers.

Form a battalion

Since the end of February, 200 French soldiers have been permanently stationed in the camp. The goal is to form a battalion, or about 500 Ukrainian soldiers every five weeks. Some Ukrainians come from the front, others are conscripts who have received simple training. France is one of the European countries that trains the most soldiers, particularly in connection with the equipment supplied to Ukraine.
