Sergei Bubka, pole vaulting legend and president of the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee (NOC), posted a message on Friday, March 4, following the invasion of his country by the Russian army.

“I love my Ukraine with all my heart. Under his banner, I received the highest honors”, he writes in Ukrainian on the social network. “We win !“, adds the ex-world record holder who had been quite discreet so far.

“My dear Ukrainians, the Olympic family is not indifferent to our pain. Like any Ukrainian, I can’t sleep now. I defend our country by all the means at my disposal, using all my international relations“, he also wrote on the social network.
