(Washington) The Pentagon announced on Wednesday a new round of military aid of 1.1 billion dollars to Ukraine, in the form of arms orders to the American defense industry.

This new aid, intended to strengthen the country’s defense in the medium and long term, includes in particular 18 Himars precision artillery systems, 150 “Humvee” armored vehicles, 150 tactical armament tractor vehicles, radars and defense systems anti-drones, the US Department of Defense said in a statement.
This is not armament intended for the Ukrainian forces currently fighting against Russian forces in the east and south of the country, but equipment which will not be delivered to Kyiv for several months.
This new aid “demonstrates the commitment of the United States to continue to support Ukraine for the long term”, underlines the press release.
It “represents a multi-year investment in capabilities essential to the sustained strengthening of Ukraine’s armed forces as they defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and territory against Russian aggression,” the Pentagon added.
This new tranche brings US military aid to Ukraine to $16.2 billion since the start of the Russian invasion of the country on February 24 and $16.9 billion since President Joe Biden took office. Blanche in January 2021.
