On the evening of Tuesday, March 22, the company TotalEnergies announced that it will stop buying Russian oil at the latest by the end of the year. Why not stop these purchases now? “The first reason is that TotalEnergies is still under contract with its Russian suppliers“, explains the journalist Julien bigardlive from the group’s headquarters in Courbevoie (Hauts-de-Seine).
“The second reason is that a sudden stop in imports could have a significant impact on our gas stations: supply problems. However, by gradually closing the tap, Total gives itself time to find a replacement, a plan B with Russian oil, which could for example come from Saudi Arabia.“, concludes the journalist, recalling that the group maintains its imports of Russian gas.
