“We have to be prepared for the long term. Because what we see is that this war has now become a war of attrition,” Stoltenberg told reporters.
Jens Stoltenberg is present in the American capital to prepare the NATO summit scheduled for June 28 to 30 in Madrid and has indicated that he intends to achieve results before the event.
The war in Ukraine “could end tomorrow, if Russia put an end to its aggression,” the NATO secretary general said on Wednesday during a press conference alongside the head of American diplomacy Antony Blinken.
But “we don’t see any signs in that direction at this stage,” he added.
The war waged by Russia in Ukraine will last “many months”, thus abounded Antony Blinken.
Since the start of the invasion, Russian troops have taken control of regions in southern Ukraine – most of Kherson and part of Zaporizhia – and made slow progress in the Donbass, including the capture of Mariupol (southeast).
