War in Ukraine | The region of Sumy “liberated” from the Russian army

(Kyiv) The region of Sumy, bordering Russia in northeastern Ukraine, has been completely “liberated” from Russian forces, the head of the regional administration Dmytro Jivitsky announced on Friday.

“The territory of the region is liberated from the Orcs,” Mr. Jivitsky announced on Telegram, using the nickname, taken from the book The Lord of the Ringsfrequently given to Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

Mr Jivitsky added, however, that the area was “not safe” and that clearance operations were underway.

With this departure of Russian troops from the Sumy region, Moscow has now completely evacuated northern Ukraine.

Sumy, a city of 250,000 inhabitants, capital of the eponymous region, was besieged in the first days of the war by Russian troops who failed to fully control it, then were pushed back.

Access to the city remained very complicated and thousands of foreign students, particularly from several countries in East or Southern Africa, were stuck there for several weeks.
