Thursday April 20, Robert Badinter, former Keeper of the Seals and former President of the Constitutional Council, was the guest of “4 Truths” on France 2. The interview was recorded the day before. Robert Badinter tackled the war in Ukraine, when he released a book with Bruno Cotte and Alain Pellet entitled Vladimir Putin, the accusation (Fayard editions). The former Keeper of the Seals estimated that “the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia is a form of cultural genocide”.

“We no longer measure what a dictator is”

“It is not possible to stop Putin, so you have to save face and wait for another Putin to rise in Russia”continued Robert Badinter. The former President of the Constitutional Council felt that we are not worried enough about the situation in Ukraine. “The younger generations don’t know what war is. It’s a film theme for them. (…) We no longer measure what a dictator is”did he declare.

Asked about the possibility of the use of nuclear weapons by Vladimir Putin, Robert Badinter answered : “I don’t believe in the atomic bomb dropped by the Russians.“On the other hand, I believe that tomorrow, if Putin sees that the military situation not only does not lead to victory for the Russians, but turns to their confusion if not to their defeat, (…) he will use tactical atomic weapons”he added.
