In France, initiatives with Ukrainian refugees have multiplied. Between the work of associations, NGOs and individuals, there are also actions by local authorities. Among them, that of the Departmental Council of the Alpes-Maritimes which chartered a plane from Poland.
In a plane chartered by the Departmental Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, 148 Ukrainian passengers took place on Friday March 18: women and children exhausted after weeks of exodus. Their day started 70 km from the border. They come from Odessa or kyiv, their whole life is in a suitcase. For more than 10 days, the teams have been preparing for their repatriation. “We are in a wave of those who, at the start, did not have the means to leave immediately, who waited and who, finally, left the country”, notes Delphine GayrardDeputy Director of Education at the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council.
It is after midnight in Nice when they arrive at the airport. Laughter and smiles greet the refugees. Shelters have been opened and several people have also volunteered to house them. “A new life begins”smiles Margarita Efimovarefugee. For her, the priority now is to get her 14-year-old son to school as soon as possible.
