After the speeches of Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin on Tuesday February 21, relations between Russia and the United States seem to have reached a point of no return. Journalist Luc Lacroix, live from Moscow (Russia) on Wednesday, explains that “what we saw yesterday was the crystallization of a frontal opposition between what Joe Biden would define as the free world, and what Vladimir Putin defines as the Russian world”.
Opposition “at all levels” according to the Russians
“Vladimir Putin has long been theorizing this opposition at all levels. Ideologically, he denounces a decadent West, he speaks of an existential threat to Russia and he claims a zone of influence when he says he does not want it. ‘NATO at its doorstep. What is at stake in Ukraine, beyond the future of this country, is therefore the border between these two worlds”continues Luc Lacroix. “We can’t really talk about a return to the Cold War because in 30 years, the world has changed a lot. It is much more interconnected and a new power, China, has emerged”he concludes.
