On Wednesday April 27, Russia suspended its gas deliveries to Poland and Bulgaria, because the two countries did not pay for their imports in rubles, as the Kremlin now demands. The France riskssuffer the same fate?

The decision was feared, the Kremlin acted on it. On Wednesday April 27, Russia stopped its gas deliveries to Poland and Bulgaria, via the gas pipelines Yamal-Europe and Turkish Stream. Retaliation for the refusal of the two countries to pay their bills in rubles, as required by the Kremlin since April 1. To make up for the shortfall, Poland is betting on two new gas pipelines. The first, by October, will connect the country to Norway. Another, inaugurated in May, will make the link with Lithuania and the network of the Baltic countries.

Bulgaria depends on 90% of its Russian neighbour, and has few reserves. Europe has decided to come to the aid of both nations. The cutting of these pipelines canit have consequences for other countries of the European Union, such as France? France matters 17% of Russian gas. According to Thierry Brosa specialist in energy issues, there is currently no reason to worry. The price of world gas is nevertheless likely to increase. In France, the government has agreed to freeze prices for households until the end of the year.
