At the International Platform for Crimea Heads of State and Government Virtual Summit, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau clarified that Canada is imposing new measures on 62 close associates of the Russian regime and one defense sector entity which he says is complicit in the Russian-led invasion of Ukraine.
Among those sanctioned are senior Russian government officials, including federal governors and regional heads, their family members and senior officials of defense sector entities currently under sanctions.
The Prime Minister also announced $3.85 million in funding to support two Ukrainian projects under the Stabilization and Peace Operations Program. Of this amount, a total of approximately $2.9 million in additional funding will be provided to the Canada-Ukraine Police Development Project, and some $950,000 will be dedicated to advancing reform objectives under the project. exchange of technical know-how and capacities.
Canada also intends to continue its fight against what it calls Russian state-sponsored disinformation by establishing a specialized team that will help increase its ability to understand, monitor and detect this disinformation. The initiative also aims to enable closer international collaboration.
