While Mariupol was devastated by Russian forces, now the port city of Odessa has been targeted, saturday 23 April, with several missile strikes.
When a Russian missile hit a building in a residential area of Odessa, it started a fire that firefighters were able to easily control. The emergency services took out the 86 residents, still shocked, one by one. This afternoon of Saturday April 23, several missiles fell on the port city and two hit military installations. Strikes that left at least 5 dead and 18 injured, but the toll could rise. In Mariupolit is Ukrainian soldiers who go down to the shelters to help the civilians. “We bring food to the children”explains a soldier attached to the battalion ofAzov. Another fighter follows him and films him in a shelter where the civilians are hiding.
Laughter and smiles that hide a sad reality. These families have been living in this basement for weeks. “I’ve been a month and a half. It’s April 21 and I’ve been here since March 5.”explains a woman. “We need help because we are in the thick of the fighting and we can’t get out of here. (…) I ask for help so that we can go to a safe place”implores another. If this woman is telling the truth, then all these civilians are in the bowels of the immense Azovstal metallurgical complex, pounded for weeks by Russian forces, where there are still hundreds of fighters from the Azov battalion who refuse to surrender.
