In Ukraine, the situation remains tense around the Zaporijia nuclear power plant. The Ukrainians and the Russians accuse each other of wanting to attack the plant. Journalist Marc de Chalvron, special correspondent in Zaporijia, takes stock.
The situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (Ukraine) remains tense. “For two weeks, the plant has been the subject of a veritable verbal battle fueled mainly by the Ukrainian authorities, who first claimed that staff had been evacuated. Then President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that objects resembling explosive devices had been planted on several reactors at the plant”indicates, Thursday, July 6, the journalist Marc de Chalvron, special correspondent in Zaporijia.
The Russians’ response
“For their part, the Russians responded. They accused Ukraine of wanting to attack the plant with high-precision weapons, which is not reassuring when you know that Russia is used to accusing the Ukraine of what it is, itself, preparing. In any case, there is no element which comes to corroborate these declarations, no visual evidence. The International Atomic Agency, which has personnel on site, claims not to have found traces of explosives, but admits not having been able to access all the reactors. It therefore asks the occupation authorities to be able to access it in order to reduce the tension a little”concludes Marc de Chalvron.
