A major fire broke out on Saturday, April 29, in an oil depot in Sevastopol, a strategic port city for Moscow. It would be a drone attack, attributable to Ukraine, according to the Russian authorities.

Visible for miles, a thick column of black smoke rises above Sevastopol. A gigantic blaze devours the oil depot, located in the bay of Kazatchiahome port of the Russian fleet in Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Moscow since 2014. 60 firefighters have were dispatched to the scene, accompanied by the governor of the city. The fire was caused, he said, by an attack by Ukrainian drones.

No one would have been hurt

According to Mikhail Razvojayevthe governor of Sevastopol, the fire should be brought under control by this evening, and no one was injured. This explosion comes the day after large Russian strikes, which left at least 26 dead, in several cities in Ukraine. And this is not the first time since the start of the war that the peninsula has been the target of drone attacks. In October 2022, a major explosion, which occurred on a car and railway bridge, connecting Crimea and Russian territory, had partially destroyed it. President Vladimir Putin then accused the Ukrainian secret services of being behind the attack.
