Didier Hoog and Sabine Meyer traveled to the border between Poland and Ukraine, from where they left with 19 refugees. They recount their experience, Friday, March 18.

In a spirit of solidarity, Didier Hoog and Sabine Meyer, owners of lodgings in Béarn, did not hesitate to take their car to go to Poland, to meet Ukrainian refugees. “We didn’t really know what we were going to find. The problem is that we don’t think anymore, there are lives to save”, says Didier Hoog. 19 people left with them for France.

“It’s an experience you won’t forget. They are extraordinary people, with exemplary courage, and that gave us strength”, comments Sabine Meyer. The husbands, enlisted in the army, are still in Ukraine, where they fight. “Again this morning, [les femmes réfugiées] speak to us, they tell us that there are many people who cannot be evacuated, and that if they were evacuated, their men could defend better and fight better”reports the volunteer.
