Between nuclear threats and the launch of a partial mobilization, are the recent announcements by the Russian President and his Minister of Defense an admission of weakness? Every evening from 6 p.m., Manon Mella and her guests debate with Internet users on the franceinfo Twitch channel.

After several months of clashes, the unilateral military aggression decided by Vladimir Putin plunged Ukraine into war on February 24, 2022. On Wednesday September 21, in a televised address, Vladimir Putin announced the “partial mobilization” of the reservists of his army. Also, the President of the Russian Federation specified that he was ready to use “all means”, making an explicit reference to the use of nuclear weapons. Should we be afraid of Vladimir Putin’s nuclear blackmail?

Nicolas Tenzer, teacher at Sciences Po, specialist in international issues and Boris Loumagne, reporter at franceinfo are in Le Talk to discuss it. Manon Mella also receives Lova Rajaoarinelina, associate researcher at the Foundation for Strategic Research.

Faced with the successes of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, a wind of panic is blowing over Moscow. Vladimir Putin announced Wednesday, September 21 a “partial mobilization” which would concern nearly 300,000 Russian reservists. This announcement met with strong opposition in Russia and demonstrations against the war multiplied.

Moreover, increasingly isolated, Vladimir Putin brandished the nuclear threat declaring, at the end of his speech: “It is not a bluff!” However, neither Volodymyr Zelensky, nor the Western leaders seem impressed by the threat of the Russian President. So, bluff or no bluff?

Join us from 6 p.m. Monday to Friday on the franceinfo Twitch channel to participate in Manon Mella’s Talk. An hour of exchange, clarification, debate around topical and social issues.
