In Bakhmout (Ukraine), in a makeshift shelter, Ukrainian soldiers are trying to repel Vladimir Putin’s army. Here, the fighting is raging. Russian military pressure is growing. “They are trying to push us back, surround us so that we have to leave the city, but it is not working so far”testifies a Ukrainian soldier. The Ukrainians want to resist at all costs, despite the difficulties on the ground.
An “extremely difficult” situation
“The situation on the front line, especially in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, remains extremely difficult. It is literally a battle for every meter of Ukrainian land”said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine. The Ukrainian soldiers refuse that the Russians claim even a symbolic victory for Bakhmout. By the admission of Evguéni Prigoni, head of the Russian mercenary militia Wagner, the fighting is violent and a near victory is not assured.
