In Ukraine, Kherson is a city in the south of the country that the Russians conquered at the start of the war. Since then, Vladimir Putin’s troops have controlled and occupied Kherson. The inhabitants hardly get used to the yoke of the occupier.

The war in Ukraine always makes rage, but to Khersonit ended a long time ago and the Russians now control the city. The ruble has also become the official currency. If remnants of the war are still present, Vladimir Putin’s troops are doing everything to make the situation seem normal, so that life resumes its course somehow. Public transport continues to operate while the employed population works.

Although the Russians strictly forbid journalists to speak to the Ukrainians present, a bus conductor confides: “I’m not afraid, what am I risking? If they kill me, they kill me.” Despite the courtesy of the occupant, she adds. “I am for Ukrainian power, I live in Ukraine, I am Ukrainian (…) I want Kherson to remain free.” Returning on their initial words, the Russians now declare that they wish to annex this territory.
